Over 4 Million TOTO NEOREST Premium Smart Toilets Delivered to Customers
[March 2025] TOTO Ltd., headquartered in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, with President Shinya Tamura, is proud to announce that the total number of NEOREST units shipped has surpassed 4 million.
“Breaking the Conventional Perception of a Toilet”
TOTO initiated the NEOREST development project with the ambition of “Breaking every conventional perception of a toilet” aiming to create a new generation of products that would deliver the utmost satisfaction to customers in both function and design. This project brought together all of TOTO’s most advanced technologies, surpassing the inherent limitations of traditional toilet definitions.
As a result of these efforts, TOTO became the industry pioneer to successfully develop a tankless toilet integrated with the WASHLET electronic bidet seat, officially launching the NEOREST EX in April 1993. A groundbreaking advancement was the significant reduction in flushing water consumption from 13 liters (the common standard at the time) to just 8.0 liters. From the outset, the product was also designed with a global standard in mind.
Over the past 30+ years, TOTO has continuously refined both the functionality and aesthetics of the NEOREST line, earning numerous prestigious international design awards such as the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. At the same time, TOTO has achieved remarkable breakthroughs in water-saving technology, with the current flush volume reduced to an impressive 3.8 liters.
Today, NEOREST has become one of TOTO’s flagship product lines, widely embraced not only in Japan but across the globe. As of July 2024, the total number of toilets with integrated WASHLET (including the NEOREST line) distributed to the market since its debut in 1987 has exceeded 13 million units.

Since its first model launch in 1993, NEOREST has undergone continuous innovation with groundbreaking features such as the tankless design, TORNADO FLUSH technology, CEFIONTECT anti-adhesion glaze, and especially EWATER+—an electrolyzed water mist technology that removes waste about 80% more effectively than a dry toilet. NEOREST was born in Japan in 1993, pioneering a breakthrough tankless design based on the core idea: “Create a toilet that breaks every conventional mold.”
In 2017, the NEOREST NX was introduced as a perfect fusion of function and design. By seamlessly integrating WASHLET’s advanced features into the ceramic body, the product achieved absolute harmony and elegance.
